Inspiration!

Everyone has moments of inspiration, but how long is it before the inspiration fades?

I know that I've felt inspired quite often, in different ways, to do many things. But does the inspiration last? I usually find that less than a week goes by and I'm back to just living life, and forgetting about all the changes I wanted to make, tasks I wanted to complete, and goals I had planned on accomplishing.

Based on the date of my last post, you might say I lost the inspiration to keep my blog going...BIG TIME!!

I am going to give this some more thought, then post some ideas for daily exercises to prevent the spark of inspiration from fading away too quickly. I'll post on that later.

In the meantime, I would love to hear some ideas YOU may have. Anyone who leaves a comment with an idea will have it posted in my follow-up post, along with a link to their blog!!

  1. The key: set clear, MEASURABLE goals.

"I'm going to exercise" is an intention, not a goal.

"I'm going to work toward running a mile in under 15 minutes" is a goal.

  2. I feel the same way sometimes. I think that we all go through ebbs and flows; sometimes we are flooded with inspiration, and other times we walk around the house in a daze, like, "What do I do now?" I like to rearrange our furniture. I know that it sounds silly, but ... it's almost like a fresh, new perspective. (And a good chance to clean house while I'm at it.) Sometimes I'll browse the craft aisle at Wal-Mart (or better yet, go to a craft store!) and look at yarn (I'm a knitter) or even go on Etsy and look at other people's projects. Or I'll have a chat with a good friend ... they always seem to have inspiring words and ideas! Devotionals are always inspiring. I'm using "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young.

  3. Anonymous,

You are SO right! Great comment! If only everyone would approach things the way you suggest.

  5. The key to inspiration is to respond RIGHT NOW when a thought goes through your mind. For example, you think...I need to put that bag of clothes in the car to take to the Catholic donation center. You know what? If you don't do it RIGHT NOW, you will probably forget. If you have an idea, right it down, at least enough to recall it later. If you can't do anything about it right then, put it on a to do list. I have found it is helpful to keep a pen and paper when I pray as a stray thought(s) of something I need to do may come, and I need to note it and then can temporarily leave it until I can focus on it. The key to inspiration is "now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation."

  6. I had to come back because of a email sent to me that beautifully illustrated when someone captured a moment of inspiration.

While at the mall a couple of years ago, my then four year old nephew, Spencer, saw kids lined up to see Santa Claus. Having been taught as a toddler that Christmas is the holiday that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, he asked his mom, "where's the line to see Jesus"? My sister mentioned this to my dad, who immediately became inspired and jotted words down to a song in just a few minutes. After putting music to the words, and doing a quick recording at home, he received a great response from friends.

We are most thankful to our Heavenly Father to have this chance to share our music with you. Merry Christmas everyone.
