Monday Night

Last night Paul and I went to a Church group for young adults and we had a great time and are really excited about going back.

There are two separate groups every other Monday, on opposite weeks of each other. One of the groups is for ages 35-54 and the one we went to last night is for 18-34. We went to both groups to find out which one worked for us and we decided on the younger group. If you go by age Paul and I would have to split up, and that wasn't gonna happen.

Each group spends an hour in Adoration then another hour in the classroom. The group we chose focuses on Bible Study, and because that is a weak area (sad to say) for me, I think it will be most beneficial for the time being, and Paul just loves to read, study, and listen to the discussions take place. The group we didn't choose focuses on spiritual growth, and even though I know there isn't anyone out there who does not need to work on their spiritual life, it is just not right for us now.

I was thinking about how to decide what is more important and I've decided it is studying the Bible. The more we (I really mean me, Paul's pretty much got it, lol) understand scripture and the stronger our faith will become, the more we will grow spiritually. I like to think of it as a chain reaction that will occur naturally.

  1. Yeah, I went to the older group, and they told me I was WAY too immature for them. So we'll have to stick to the younger group.

Abby is doing the Didache Bible Study course this year - Understanding the Scriptures by Scott Hahn. It is very very good. Probably the best course I have seen. I have a lot of the Bible read and memorized - but when I look at this course I feel there is so much more to learn. It also fuses together the Bible with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Tradition and Encylicals. I wish I had more time to really study it in depth like Abby is doing. I highly recommend it.

Also - not sure if you have heard of Jeff Cavins Great Adventure Through the Bible - Steve and I did it a few years ago - it is very good.

    Blessings to you.

  3. Hi Marilyn,

The priest who's doing our Bible study is copying Jeff Cavin's course and giving it to us session-by-session. I agree--it's very good. I bought it myself several years ago. I'm also doing Scott Hahn's Understanding the Scriptures. Probably the best Bible study I've seen

  4. That's interesting why people choose certain groups. I am thinking of starting up a women's group in the afternoon but cannot decide between spiritual growth or studying the Catholic faith.
